Coming from the foundation of photography, Kate Hodgetts’ practice plays with the limitations of the medium and its associations with memory, nostalgia and truth. Through the manipulation of the negative and traditional darkroom processes Hodgetts’ work aims to reframe photography’s ability to “capture a moment” by shifting focus to surface: scratch, dust and fingerprint.
Hodgetts was born in Burnie, Tasmania in 1981 and received a BFA from the Victorian College of the Arts and an MA from the University of Melbourne. She currently lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.
